Heartland Crossing Community

Interacting with your neighbors on and offline

I went to the pool Monday and noticed that the hours were changed effective July 4, 2009 that the hours have been changed to 10:30 am to 7:30 pm. Does anyone know why the changes occured and who approved the change in hours?

I understand that the pool is for the children but it is the adults who pay the dues and the hours of operation is not for the working person.

The hours previously were 10 am to 8:00 pm but with the daylight saving hours I thought that should stay open an hour later not close earlier.

Anyone have any insight on the change, who made the changes, and if there is anything us as homeowners can do to change this?

Thank you in advance

I say it is worth it if we get a professional company. No kidding, one of the previous lifeguards actually asked us if we knew how to whistle, because he didn't have one and he wanted to alert everyone of the break. Pretty ridiculous.

Here is the answer from Mike Caskey owner of M Group.

The pool hours have reduced for one main reason:

There are 3 companies in the Indianapolis area that employ lifeguards. The first two companies have been used by Heartland and fired by Heartland. One was fired because of negligence by the lifeguards and the second and most recent because of negligence by the service
department and they weren't carrying insurance. I spent an extra 10 to 15 hours per week, managing the old pool company, which is not my job, but because I am doing everything I can to save the community money, I did this.

Because of these factors, we were forced to go with the third company. This company had bid on our pools and were considerably higher. In fact they were in the neighborhood of $35K higher for the year. I spent the last two weeks prior to the change, (including weekends) negotiating, researching, working out a plan and finally came up with a way to make this all work. The only thing that a resident would notice was that the pools were open a 1/2 hour later and closed a 1/2 hour earlier. Plus they would get better service, better looking pools and a professional company that Heartland deserves. I know that you know where we are located, so I know you believe me when I tell you I counted the number of people that use the pool between 10am and 10:30am and it was minimal and I even looked at the Reunion Pool. Even when it was 90 degrees plus, like it was two weeks ago. I also remember that from last year, the
lifeguards and the lifeguard manager both agreed and said that the pool starts clearing well before 7:30 and few people stay past 7:30pm.

With that said, I am still looking for a way to get the hours back to normal for next year. It just couldn't be done this year. I know that you are a reasonable person and understand that for the safety of the community, the switch had to made.
