Heartland Crossing Craft Fair -- Raising Funds to Bring Soldier Home for Thanksgiving!

Hello! I am in Heartland Crossing and would like to put together a craft fair soon at the neighborhood clubhouse. If you are interested in setting up a craft booth or even a business or yard sale booth let me know! I am trying to raise money to bring my brother home for Thanksgiving to see his son. He is in the military and has no means of getting home to see him. Let me know ASAP if you are interested and I will get the ball rolling fast!

Comment by Jeremy on November 22, 2009 at 10:22am: Just contact people who may be able to help. Im certain you will be able to raise the money you need to bring a hero home for the holiday. First you must ask people who can help you for direction. It may be a little late for the help the paper could offer but go down to the local VFW they love to help out with things like this. I find that silent auctions work really well raising funds.

But I did contact the association via email and they were very short with me. They didn't have any openings for the clubhouse this month or next month (we have had money fronted to us now from a family member but it has to be paid back) and I was kind of frustrated about that because I double checked the reservation calendar for the clubhouse before I contacted her and it was blank, leading me to believe it was available. But it just hasn't been kept up. I haven't thought about contacting the VFW. I'm not even sure how to go about that! Just contact any branch?

Comment by Jeremy on November 11, 2009 at 10:52am: You would be better off to call the association. If you do this right you shouldnt have any problems getting a veteran home for the holidays. Contact the paper let them know what your trying to do and also contact the VFW and see what their suggestions are. This may be easier than you think.

Comment by Tracey Marshall on November 11, 2009 at 10:16am: I was actually getting on to send an email to the association to see if the 21st is available. If so I'd like to do it from 9-3 that day. I have several people interested in setting up craft and home business booths but I need to get into the clubhouse and see how many I can have set up. I was hoping to have like a silent auction to help too. I haven't contacted any papers yet--I am not sure how much advertising is and I probably won't have a large budget to work with.

Comment by Tracey Marshall on November 11, 2009 at 6:09am: His airfare is around $600. He would be staying with family and using a family members vehicle while in town so most of his costs while at home would be minimal. Members of our family are donating what they can but of course times are tough!
