Heartland Crossing Community

Interacting with your neighbors on and offline

Well well well, the time has ounce again started for all of the race car drivers to hit the streets and make them unsafe for our children. This seems to be a subject that gets beaten to death, but has to be until something is done. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop this?

One of our security companies used to patrol and pull over speeders. Does this still exist?

Maybe if we get them to install some big speed bumps on the streets it would slow them down. Also if we all called the sheriffs dept and complained about it they would have a car sit and radar them.

that is a double sided question unfortunatly. On one hand you want to slow people down. On the other hand the police rely on tickets for renenue. And then there is balance.

I don't understand why the police are always here on heartland crossing blvd during the times when people who work are comming home. I will only go 30 on heartland blvd. However all the tickets that are givin out on heartland blvd should take care of all the pot holes and then some. Seems like race car drivers usually come out at night time. I always thought race car drivers wanted straight roads. County line road is pretty straight around here. Sometimes around 10pm and later in the summer you will hear what sounds like someone racing around hear. Anyone else ever hear that?

Yes I have heard it several times and its coming from a long distance. First of all the car has got be an illegal car because of the horrid sound it makes and second it has to be breaking the speed limit. Maybe someone can get the license number and turn them in. If they come my way I might toss a brick through their windshield and that will slow them down. Theres no excuse for that type of racket in a residential neighborhood. Again I ask, wheres the security thats supposedly cruising our neighborhood?

I am less worried about speeders than those who drive around corners and don't stay in their lane. There are a few curves with low visability and (usually teens) driving so fast they can't control their car. There is going to be a head on collision one of these days.

On a similar note, does anyone know who we call for those enormous potholes on Heartland Blvd just past the park before Valley Ridge? I have a small car and it about flipped over when I almost hit one on a dark rainy night. I wasn't going too fast and I was even looking for them, but they were too dark to see.

As part of the HCCW monthly meeting, JeremyH@hccw.info, takes note of resident's concerns and relays these concerns to HOA. Jeremy reports back at the next meeting.
The following is the response from the HOA to the question concerning the potholes:

"We have been in contact with Carlos May (327-5216). This is no exaggeration, when I tell you that we have contacted him on average at least 3 times a week for the last 2 months. He is trying to to get it done. Jeremy, I live in Indianapolis and I can tell you the streets around my neighborhood are FAR WORSE, than Heartland Blvd. I think that the City is behind schedule. I know that the City is WAY behind on mowing medians and other things. I know that Carlos is doing everything he can. The big one by Ridge Creek, was missed when they originally repaired the pot holes. As we stated at the Crime Watch meeting, we BEG you and all other residents to call Carlos May. Carlos has asked the residents to call him as well."

Thanks for posting this number. Looks like the one I was talking about were filled. If we see more, we will make the call.

Thank you,

We were a victim of a teen driving like a race car driver this week. He hit and destroyed our mailbox along with taking out the utility poles in the neoghbors yard. We are told that he then went on to hit Menatds. I am just very glad that it happend at 2:30 in the am and we werent outside. Hubby and I just came in tonight and there was a car that was going way too fast around the corner.

ADM does not have the authority to pull over speeders. However United Security Solutions does and they work limited shifts currently. Speeders has been a concern since I have lived here and there really hasent been any good solutions. Speed bumps are out as these are county roads and they dont allow them for plowing, and emergency reasons.

Most speeders I have seen were high school aged kids and I really dont think there is much that can be done. The best thing you can do is call the police and report the vehicle. If they get enough calls they will be out her more often and increase the chances of enforcement.

Well if they are kids, write the license plate down if you can post it here and we can find there parents and tell them. I think the parents should know if they have a child breaking the law. Right?

another thing to do is follow them home and tell there parents directly. Whats wrong with that. I have a kid and when he becomes a teenager and is doing stupid things I would want to know. I would take his car away from him and he would ride a bike or walk. Thats doing something about it.

Doing nothing is also doing something about it.

Rocks...we start throwing rocks at cars that are speeding. Of course I'm kidding, but its kind of a fun thought...
